Thank you for recommending this book Jamie. I had quite an ambivalent reaction to it. I loved the exploration of vocation and anaphatic experiences of God. I thought the author also had a lot of excellent insights into relationships. It was also a brilliant idea for a story – the two populations were a clever idea, though I don’t want to say more in case people haven’t read it. I did think the author was a bit too obsessed with sex, but maybe I’m just too boring. So I found the ending a bit too violent for my taste although obviously there were intimations of the horror all the way through. She also seemed unduly interested in height/size: I found that quite interesting as I am notorious for assuming that everyone is the same height as I am, even my 6 foot tall husband… I enjoyed the book but I’m not sure who I’d recommend it to, as it’s probably too spiritual for my secular book club and would possibly make my church members feel uncomfortable. So I guess it was a great book for a minister to read! What did anyone else think? And let’s read Andrew’s recommendation next.
